TOI WāHine Framework
The TOI WāHine Framework is a culturally grounded, whakapapa-based model that guides wāhine through cycles of awakening, transformation, and renewal. Rooted in the movements of Hinetītama and the teachings she left for her mokopuna, the framework helps wāhine recognise the life phase they are in, understand the lessons within it, and move with greater balance and clarity.
Shaped by kōrero tuku iho, tikanga, and embodied practice, TOI WāHine strengthens mauri, restores tapu, and supports wāhine to stand in their mana across all stages of life—from whare pūhi, through whare tangata, into ruahinetanga.
Our Foundations
At its heart, the framework aligns three principles:
Kauae Runga - connection to wairua, atua, and ancestral knowledge
Kauae Raro - grounding through tikanga, embodiment, rhythm, and season
Kauae Kōrero - expression, story, reflection, and the voice of lived experience
These anchors ensure each wāhine moves with spiritual light, embodied wisdom, and the freedom to speak her truth.
A Whakapapa-Led Journey
Inspired by the cycles of Te Kore, Te Pō and Te Ao Mārama, and the transformational story of Hinetītama → Hine-nui-te-pō, the TOI WāHine Framework honours both descent and return.
Each movement—awakening, rupture, descent, remembering, and risingreveals the tikanga that shapes our behaviour, our healing, and our leadership.
Within this journey, the eight TOI pathways guide spiritual, emotional, physical, and relational wellbeing. Together they support wāhine to:
Awaken wairua and mauri
Understand emotions and inherited patterns
Restore balance through tikanga and ceremony
Strengthen whānau connections
Care for tinana and hinengaro
Embrace wāhine cycles and ruahinetanga
Integrate practices that sustain long-term wellbeing
Why This Matters
When wāhine are supported to honour every phase of their journey, their wellbeing flows naturally into whānau, hapū, and iwi. The framework creates spaces where wāhine can reflect, learn, release, and reclaim the knowledge held within their own whare tangata.
It is a return to balance, guided by our puna kōrero, our nannies, and the teachings of atua wahine.
A Living Taonga
The TOI WāHine Framework is offered with deep respect to the kuia and mana wāhine whose wisdom shaped its foundation. It continues to evolve through ceremony, practice, and the lived experience of wāhine today.
